Explore our range of power amplifiers for an affordable, higher-power output. Featuring options from industry-leading brands, finding an option to suit your professional audio needs has never been easier.

What is a power amplifier?

A power amplifier is designed to increase an input signal's power or amplitude. While a preamplifier takes care of signal conditioning and voltage amplification, a power amplifier must provide significant voltage or current to drive a load, e.g., speakers or transducers.

The main features of a power amplifier are as follows:

  • Its primary function is to amplify the power of an audio signal by taking a lower input signal formal from a source device and increasing its power.

  • It handles current and voltage; a power amplifier must supply sufficient current to drive the speakers and sufficient voltage so the speakers can reproduce the audio signal accurately.

  • It drives passive speakers; the amplified signal output from a power amplifier goes to the speakers, where the speakers convert the signal into audio sound waves to be heard. Power amplifiers must be matched to the impedance of the speakers to ensure efficient power transfer.

  • It lowers distortion, preserving the clarity of the input signal by ensuring that the output signal remains as close to the original input signal as possible.
